Friday, December 30, 2011: A Windy, Mild Second-To-Last Day of 2011
Good Friday evening, folks. Since yesterday's blog post hit the arctic invasion hard, and we don't expect any changes from that forecast, we'll take a look at what has been a WINDY day today. Many areas, including right here in the Bluegrass Region, had wind gusts over 40 mph this afternoon. That warm breezy from the southwest drove temperatures to 58° this afternoon. Here are the top five windiest locations from our area, today.

While it is still breezy this evening, winds are gradually dying down. The Wind Advisory that was in effect across the Bluegrass Region expired at 6 PM, and that will serve as the final advisory of 2011 for our area.
-
Some parts of northern and eastern Kentucky received some afternoon rain showers. Late this evening, additional showers are firing across central and eastern Kentucky. They are a bit gusty, and won't last long in any one location.

I'll leave you with a nice photo from Jonathan Durham in Laurel County. He went out with the camera as the sun was setting. You can see a few low clouds that were likely racing across the sky, driven by that active breeze.

Thanks for the photo, Jonathan!

I plan to post an update on New Year's Eve. Until then, be safe and enjoy the final day of 2011!
