Freezing Rain Possible Thursday Night

Freezing Rain Possible Thursday Night

Our northern areas could see some icy bridges and overpasses late Thursday night into Friday morning. Most areas will just see rain.
A Winter Weather Advisory continues for our northern counties through early Friday morning due to the potential for freezing rain.

Midnight Update: Temperatures in northern Kentucky and the northern portions of the Bluegrass are at or just below freezing at this time. Ice could begin to accumulate on roadways in these areas, roughly along and north of Interstate 64. Bridges and overpasses will freeze first! Lexington has fallen to 31° at this time. Southern Kentucky will stay above freezing and will continue to only see rain.

Temperatures will rebound in the very early hours of Friday and should be in the upper 30s by the morning commute. This should eliminate most ice by the drive to work and school. Stay safe!

Meteorologist Michael Estime will update you on the big warm-up coming Friday afternoon starting at 5 a.m. on ABC 36 Good Morning Kentucky.

Most areas will just see rain this evening, but late tonight, temperatures will drop to freezing or just below freezing north of Interstate 64. This could cause some rain to freeze onto raised surfaces including bridges and overpasses. This will likely only occur in areas north of Interstate 64 late tonight into early Friday morning.

After midnight, warmer air will start to move in, pushing temperatures into the upper 30s by the Friday morning commute. Remain cautious in the northern counties as some spots may remain slick.

Warmer air will continue to push in through the day, helping our afternoon highs reach the mid 50s with mostly cloudy skies.
