Clouds will persist for the overnight as temperatures slowly drop into the upper 20s. Some light freezing drizzle will be possible in southeastern Kentucky, although there will be limited impact. The winds will remain light through the overnight.

On Thursday a major winter system will skirt by the region to the southeast. Along the northern edge some freezing rain  and snow will be likely along the Virginia border. A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 7AM - 5PM Thursday for Harlan, Letcher, Bell and Pike counties. Higher elevations along the VA border will likely receive several inches of snow. Otherwise extra clouds across the region will limit the temperatures. Highs should climb into the mid 30s with a few peaks of late day sun possible.

Mostly sunny skies will return on Friday as high temperatures return to near normal; upper 30s to near 40 degrees.
