Extra clouds will persist Christmas Day, as temperatures peak around 40 degrees. A dry start is expected with thickening clouds through the afternoon. By the late afternoon in southern Kentucky, rain will arrive from the south. As the rain spreads north through the evening, and temperatures begin to drop, there is a slight chance for some freezing rain, mainly north of the Bluegrass. Otherwise steady overnight rain is expected across the entire region. Rain totals are expected between 0.75"-1.25" by Wednesday afternoon. The winds will also increase early on Wednesday, gusting to over 25 mph.

Wednesday afternoon cold air will wrap into the region from the southwest and rain showers will transition to snow showers. Snow showers are expected across the region Wednesday night and into Thursday for eastern Kentucky.
