Wintry Mix Expected Wednesday

Rain will move into Kentucky early Wednesday morning and is expected to mix in with snow later in the day.
Midnight Update: Mostly cloudy skies are above as temperatures continue to fall. In Lexington, we are at 35°. Areas in southern Kentucky are still in the low 40s. Rainfall continues to inch northward into Kentucky and should make for a wet morning commute for many of us. It still looks like some of this rain will transition to snow later in the day, but accumulations will be very limited due to warm ground and above freezing temperatures.

We will start Tuesday evening dry with cloudy skies, but late this evening, light rain showers will start to push into southern Kentucky. By the Wednesday morning commute, this rainfall will expand further north. Temperatures will start the day in the mid 30s.

Snow will start to mix in with the rain later in the day Wednesday, even with temperatures in the low 40s. The higher levels of the atmosphere will be cold enough for snow, but it's hard to say how much of that snow can make it through the warmer lower levels of the atmosphere. If enough snow makes it to the ground before melting, some very minor accumulations will be possible, but the snow will melt very quickly. All precipitation will end Wednesday evening.

Valentine's Day is Thursday! We will start the day in the low 30s and climb to near 50° by the afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds.
