We will continue to have the chance for scattered thunderstorms this evening and into Tuesday. Temperatures will remain warm through the rest of the week, with the summer solstice officially this Friday, June 21st at 1:04 a.m.
Tonight: We will continue to see disorganized thunderstorms over the region, with heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and gusty winds possible. Even though an isolated severe thunderstorm is possible, we are not expecting widespread severe weather tonight. Overnight low temperatures will be around 67 degrees.
Midnight Update: We will continue to see scattered rain showers and thunderstorms overnight, with more rain and thunderstorms into Tuesday. Thunderstorms are mainly confined to Eastern Kentucky as of midnight, with Flash Flood Warnings for the following counties: Powell, Lee, Breathitt, Wolfe, Leslie, Perry, Knott, and Letcher counties until about 2am. There have been reports of Browns Fork Road, about three miles west of Hazard, having been washed away, and Big Creek Road is blocked by debris and high water. We look to pick up an additional 0.25" to 0.50" of rainfall tonight through Tuesday.
Tuesday: More widespread rainfall and thunderstorm activity will continue for Tuesday, with the chance for rain throughout the day. Tuesday afternoon high temperatures will be around 81 degrees. Any thunderstorms that develop may contain gusty winds, heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and small hail.
Tuesday Night: A cold front will slide through the region Tuesday night, with diminishing rain, and overnight low temperatures around 61 degrees.
Wednesday: We will have the chance for an isolated thunderstorm on Wednesday, yet generally we’ll stay dry with partly sunny skies. Wednesday high temperatures will be around 80 degrees.
Thursday: Temperatures get a little warmer for Thursday, with mostly sunny to partly sunny skies, and a high temperature of 83 degrees.
Friday: Friday is officially the first day of summer, or summer solstice at 1:04 a.m. For our first day of summer, we’ll have a high of 86 degrees, with an isolated thunderstorm possible over Southeast Kentucky.
Weekend: Partly sunny skies will be around for the weekend, with temperatures in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. Saturday is looking dry, with the chance for a few thunderstorms for Sunday.
