Sunday, February 19, 2012 - Afternoon Snow Update

Snow has been falling throughout the day in eastern Kentucky, but so far for the Bluegrass it's been just a cloudy and cold day. For the late afternoon a few sprinkles or flakes will be possible in central Kentucky, but no accumulating snow is expected. The heavy and moderate intensity snow has been falling in southern and eastern Kentucky. Snowfall totals are ranging between 2"-4" in southeast Kentucky as of 4 P.M. Along the I-75 corridor, snow begins in Rockcastle county and continues to the Tennessee border. There are reports of slick and snow covered roads. In extreme southeast Kentucky trees and power lines have come down with power outages being reported.

The snow will continue to push east this evening. A Winter Storm Warning for eastern Kentucky is in effect until 1 A.M. the Winter Weather Advisory will expire at 5 P.M. Sunday evening.

As the skies clear tonight from west to east temperatures will drop into the mid 20s. And a milder and sunnier day is expected to begin the work week. High temperatures in the Bluegrass will peak Monday in the upper 40s. Low 40s are expected in locations with a snow covered ground.

We'll look at Live VIPIR HD and talk about snow totals and the work week forecast today at 6:30 on ABC 36.
