Persistent low clouds will hang tough before slow, gradual clearing reveals some sunshine this afternoon.
High pressure will pass to our north tonight bringing partly cloudy skies and a seasonably cold night.
Clouds will increase on Friday and another round of precipitation will arrive in the afternoon.
Light snow will be likely across the northern two-thirds of the area, but some light rain may also mix with the snow, especially in southern parts of Kentucky.
After a cold front crosses the area late on Friday, temperatures will fall, and all areas will change over to light snow and snow showers.
A light accumulation will be likely across the area, similar to what we received on Wednesday morning (although the mountains of far southeastern Kentucky will likely receive 1" to 3" above 2,000' through Saturday).
Snow showers will linger on a much colder Saturday as highs only peak in the upper 20s.
Arctic high pressure will provide mostly sunny skies on Sunday, but it will be very cold with lows in the teens and highs still more than 10 degrees below normal for early to mid-February.
The next storm system will arrive early next week. While the track remains very uncertain, we could see a mix of rain and potentially some freezing rain, sleet or even a little bit of snow as the system crosses the area from Monday evening, through Valentine's Day.
Precipitation will exit eastern Kentucky early on Wednesday.
