Kentucky Finishes Strong; But Florida Wins 'Big Blue Slam'

Florida won the 5th annual blood drive 1878-to-1607 over Kentucky.
Although Kentucky finished strong, it still wasn’t enough to overcome Florida’s advantage, and the Gators took the 5th annual Big Blue Slam, 1878 to 1607.

“Even though we lost, it was a good week for us. The winter weather caused blood drive cancellations today and last week, so the donors who came in during Slam really helped boost the community blood supply, and that’s really what this is all about,” said Martha Osborne, Kentucky Blood Center’s Executive Director of Marketing and Recruitment.

“Thanks to all the wonderful Cat fans who rolled up their sleeves this week. They are touching the lives of Kentucky patients, who depend on the continued generosity of blood donors,” added Osborne.

Kentucky Blood Center (KCB) still leads the annual competition with the Gators and LifeSouth Community Blood Center in Gainesville, 3 to 2.

To find a blood drive or schedule a donation, visit kybloodcenter.org or call 800.775.2522.

Blood donors must be 17-years-old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old doors must also have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org. All donors must present a photo I.D.
