For the past 57 years, it's helped thousands of at-risk kids by giving them a mentor or role model to look up to. But, now, Big Brothers, Big Sisters of the Bluegrass may be forced to close it's doors.
The organization took a big hit back in 2009, when a former office manager Bendrea Wilson admitted to embezzling more than $430,000 from the organization. She was sentenced to four years in prison. When that happened, the non-profit sent out an emergency plea for help; it sent out another one last week and the community responded, donating nearly $50,000 but that relief is just temporary.
The overall goal is to raise $250,000 dollars which would get them by until their big fundraiser, Bowl for Kids' Sake, next week in Madison County. And, he's encouraging the community to help support that event or help in anyway it can. For more information, you can go to www.bbbs-bluegrass.org. To donate, you can go to any Central Bank location or go to www.ihigh.com/bbbslex/
A new executive director has also been hired in hopes of getting the non-profit back on it's feet...so hundreds of kids can continue to be helped.
