State police say the number of traffic deaths in Kentucky is down from 2012 to 2013.

Through October 20th, 514 people have died in crashes on Kentucky roads. During the same period in 2012, 585 people had died.

The numbers also show that seat belt and helmet use can make a big difference. Of the 392 vehicle deaths, 194 victims were not wearing seat belts.

Of the 67 motorcycle deaths, 44 victims were not wearing helmets. Of the ten people killed on all-terrain vehicles, all ten lacked helmets.

Three bicycle riders have died, 41 pedestrians have been killed, and one person died in a crash involving an animal-drawn vehicle.

And 114 deaths are related to the suspected use of alcohol.

All of these numbers are from Kentucky State Police.
