Kentucky head coach Joker Phillips had a less than optimistic response to how his new back-up quarterback practiced on Wednesday.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - True freshman Jalen Whitlow practiced with the first team on Wednesday, preparing to play against South Carolina Saturday in case Kentucky's starting quarterback, Maxwell Smith, can't go or is injured.

Smith is nursing a separated shoulder, which kept him out of UK's 38-0 loss to Florida this past Saturday. To protect that shoulder, Smith didn't throw on Wednesday.

When asked how Whitlow did filling in for Smith in practice, head coach Joker Phillips said that Whitlow was not "God-awful."

Whitlow described it as not his best.
