Spring football didn't help clear up much of anything at quarterback for the Cats.

In fact, if it did anything at all, it made it more difficult to pick the guy to lead the team this fall.

Freshman Reese Phillips had an outstanding performance in front of 50-thousand plus at the spring game and worked his way into the conversation in addition to the three returning sophomores in Max Smith, Patrick Towles and Jalen Whitlow.

But what the coaching staff has made clear about the race under center...it's a competition, not a controversy.

And if it takes actual game reps to decide a starter moving forward, then everyone involved is on board, because trusting the staff is a must as each guy tries to get better.
