Kentucky freshmen quarterback Patrick Towles may have too much to learn in too little time to win starter's job.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - As talented as quarterback Patrick Towles is, the freshman from Fort Thomas Highlands is at a disadvantage in the competition to become Kentucky's starter.

Senior Morgan Newton and sophomore Maxwell Smith simply have more knowledge of the offense and game experience than either Towles or fellow freshman QB Jalen Whitlow.

UK offensive coordinator Randy Sanders said following the team's first scrimmage of fall camp Saturday that Towles saw a variety of defenses in the scrimmage likely equal to as many as he saw during his entire high school career.
