Kentucky offensive coordinator Randy Sanders' comments support spring stance on QB - it's Max Smith's job to lose.
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Kentucky offensive coordinator Randy Sanders has said since the spring that sophomore Maxwell Smith would be tough to beat out at starting quarterback and echoed those sentiments following UK's first scrimmage of fall camp Saturday.
Monday, Joker Phillips said it is still too early to name a starting QB, and the competition will continue.
On Saturday, Sanders said the freshmen - Patrick Towles and Jalen Whitlow - did some good things in the scrimmage but do some "stupid things."
Sanders said it's obvious that senior Morgan Newton is coming off shoulder surgery.
Sanders did not say much about Smith, but he didn't have to.
