Kentucky quarterback Maxwell Smith practiced Tuesday and offensive coordinator Randy Sanders says he expects Smith to be close to 100% for Saturday's game against South Carolina.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Although Kentucky head coach Joker Phillips said on Monday that he didn't expect quarterback Maxwell Smith to practice until Wednesday, Smith was out there throwing on Tuesday.

Offensive coordinator Randy Sanders said Smith is not 100% yet but expects him to be by Saturday's game against South Carolina.

Smith is recovering from a shoulder injury suffered against Western Kentucky. He said he wanted to play against Florida, the coaches held him out after deciding it was too risky.

Sanders said the Gamecocks have the best defensive front UK will see all season. Because of that, Sanders said he'll have to move the pocket some or else Smith "will get killed" if he drops back in the same spot every play.
