Posthumus Headed To Portsmouth Camp
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Chad Posthumus, a basketball player at Morehead State from 2012-14, has been invited to the prestigious Portsmouth Invitational Tournament. The event begins on Wednesday at the Churchland High School Sports Complex in Portsmouth, Va.
"Congratulations to Chad on this invitation," Head Coach Sean Woods said. "Chad showed great improvement from his junior to senior season and is very deserving of the opportunity. This is one of many steps to becoming a professional, and we wish him the best."
Posthumus, a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, recorded 574 points, 595 rebounds and 55 blocked shots in two seasons with the Eagles. As a senior in 2013-14, the 6-foot-11 center averaged 9.6 points and 10.9 rebounds while shooting 51 percent from the floor.
This past year, Posthumus ranked second nationally with 4.3 offensive rebounds per game and fourth with 10.9 total boards per contest. He posted 10 double-doubles, 17 double-figure scoring efforts and 20 double-figure rebounding performances during his final campaign.
Posthumus registered a career-best 21 points and 18 rebounds on Nov. 22 in a nationally-televised game at No. 22/24 UCLA. He also collected 20 boards in a Dec. 30 home game, which marked the highest total by an Ohio Valley Conference player since March 4, 2011.
"One of our goals is to recruit players who want to play professionally," Woods said. "Chad is a big man with great size and potential. He has started to turn the corner from a basketball standpoint. Chad's future is bright, and I believe his best years are still ahead of him."
Posthumus earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors from College Sports Madness after the 2013-14 season. He was also recognized by several Canadian media outlets throughout the campaign.
Posthumus is scheduled to play on the Cherry Bekaert Team, alongside De'Mon Brooks (Davidson), Andre Dawkins (Duke), Okaro White (Florida State), Sean Armand (Iona), Langston Galloway (St. Joseph's), Patrick Miller (Tennessee State) and Will Neighbour (UALR).
The Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, which spans four days and includes 12 games, is designed for the nation's top 64 seniors. More than 200 scouts, including representatives from every NBA franchise and numerous international leagues, are expected to be on hand.
