(Nicholasville, KY) –Jessamine County Schools will retire the jersey of former West Jessamine High School basketball standout, Jarrod Polson, at a ceremony in the West High gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2014, prior to the school’s boys’ basketball game vs. Mercer County.
Polson, a 2010 West Jessamine graduate, led the Colts to back-to-back 12th Region Championships in 2009 and 2010. He is the WJHS all-time leading scorer with 1,884 points and was named First Team All-State in 2010 by both the Lexington Herald Leader and the Louisville Courier Journal.
Polson is currently in his senior season at the University of Kentucky and was a member of the 2011 Final Four and 2012 National Championship teams. He has been named as a nominee for the National Association of Basketball Coaches AllState Good Works Team, which recognizes a select group of college basketball student-athletes who have made significant contributions to the greater good of their communities through volunteerism and civic service. Still active in his hometown, Polson has returned to Jessamine County’s West High and West Middle schools as a motivational speaker to encourage students to do their best academically and as good citizens. Polson graduated from the University of Kentucky in May of 2013 after just three years with a BA degree in Business Finance. He maintained a GPA of 3.472 and is currently pursuing a second degree in Marketing while he completes his athletic eligibility.
