Morehead State Football Ready For Spring Game Fun

Eagles hope fans come out for good fun this Saturday at Jayne Stadium.
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State will host its annual Spring Football Game on Saturday (April 20) at Jayne Stadium.  Tailgating will begin at 2 p.m. ET.  An alumni flag football game is slated to follow at 4, with current players and coaches hitting the field at 5:15.  Admission is free.

Approximately 70 student-athletes will be on display.  The game will include four 15-minute quarters, with a running clock in the second half and several special teams scenarios mixed in.

The offense will accumulate points using a traditional scoring system.  The defense will be awarded seven points for a turnover, three points for a three-and-out and two points for a safety.

"The Spring Game is an opportunity to support our student-athletes and give them some momentum heading into the fall," Head Coach Rob Tenyer said.  "Saturday should be a great day at Jayne Stadium.  The weather forecast looks good, and we hope to see lots of Eagle fans."

Season tickets for the 2014 season will be on sale.  Fans can see all five games at Jayne Stadium for just $55, while MSU faculty, staff and retirees can attend every contest for only $25.

Season boxes, which comfortably accommodate eight people just below the press box, will be on sale for $600 apiece.  Season parking passes will also be available for $25 each.

Saturday's tailgaters will be able to set up in lots adjacent to the EAGLE Center.  General parking will be available in the large lot to the south of Jayne Stadium and east of the Academic-Athletic Center.

Since late March, the Morehead State football team has been practicing on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.  The Eagles are slated to have completed 14 workouts by this weekend.

"We've had a good spring to this point," Tenyer said.  "Our consistency has improved in all three phases of the game.  We've added everything that we're planning to from a scheme standpoint.  The focus now is getting lots of reps and working hard every day so we can be better as a team."

Morehead State posted a 3-9 overall record and 3-5 in the Pioneer Football League mark last year.  The Eagles registered three straight wins over Davidson, Campbell and Valparaiso.

Morehead State returns six individuals who earned PFL postseason honors in 2013 -- Brandon Bornhauser, Joshua Brunner, Ronald Cooper, Alex Hey, Michael Jackson and Kitaro Lewis.

MSU's assistant coaches for the 2014 season are Craig Mullins, Phil Burnett, Dontae Wright, Patrick St. Louis, Rod West, Brett Rude, Matt Forrest, Andrew Doan, Wes McDermott and Zach Lewis.

The Eagles have seven road games beginning Aug. 30 and five home contests starting Sept. 6.  MSU will host in-state opponent Pikeville (Sept. 6), Campbell (Oct. 4), Jacksonville (Oct. 11), Valparaiso (Oct. 25) and new foe Stetson (Nov. 15).  Times will be announced at a later date.
