Ashland's Sam Hunter tossed a complete-game shutout to eliminate South Laurel from the Kentucky high school baseball state tournament.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - South Laurel could not solve Ashland ace Sam Hunter as the Tomcats advanced past the Cardinals 7-0 in the opening round of the Kentucky high school baseball state tournament Tuesday at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Hunter tossed a complete-game, four-hit shutout with 14 strike outs. Ashland's Aaron Elam added a pair of hits and 3 RBI.

Ashland will next play Thursday at 8:30 PM against Meade County, which beat Calloway County 1-0 Tuesday.

In the other two games of the day, Newport Central Catholic beat Pleasure Ridge Park 3-2 and Henderson County blanked North Oldham 10-0.

NewCath and Henderson County will play Thursday at 6 PM.
