Joker Phillips was asked why he was not wearing apparel featuring the UK logo during his final weekly press conference as Kentucky's head coach on Monday.
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Every Monday during his three seasons as Kentucky's head football coach, Joker Phillips has shown up to his weekly press conference wearing some sort of UK apparel, except today - his final Monday meeting with the media as the UK coach.
Joker was asked about the lack of an interlocking UK logo on his clothing. The Wildcats' coach, who two weeks ago was told he would not be returning for another season, explained it as part of the process of moving on.
With Kentucky's game at Tennessee Saturday marking the finale for Phillips as UK head coach, he said, "You've got to start to separate. I understand this is still my University. My family is coming up Thanksgiving, we've got 50 family members coming up. We'll draw names and see who gets to pick out what. I've got a lot of stuff. (Chuckles.) That's the way it should be. They should be able to enjoy it. Hopefully I've got to make room for some other gear."
