Georgetown College came out swinging against No. 1 University of Pikeville and pulled off the upset Thursday in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
The Bears (14-2, 5-1 MSC) got within four early in the first half off a 7-0 run. The No. 18 Tigers (13-4, 4-2 MSC) answered back with a 24-9 run that put the game under their thumb for the final nine minutes.
Georgetown won 92-77.
Monty Wilson came off the bench for a game-high 20 points and Dominique Hagans was right behind with 18. He added 11 rebounds for the double-double. Deondre McWhorter chipped in with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Noah Cottrill had 15 points and Russ Middleton 14 to give GC five double-figure scorers.
Keala King led Pikeville with 17 points. Bruce Reed, Josh Whitaker and Elisha Justice finished with 13 each. Chris Cantino had 11 and Kenny Manigault finished with 10.
Georgetown returns to action 4 pm Saturday against Bluefield College.
