BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball guard Jaron Jones came away with adidas OVC Player of the Week honors following victories over Austin Peay and Tennessee State last week. 

Jones paced Eastern Kentucky in scoring in both games last week. The senior from Lexington, Ky., reached the 20-point plateau for the third time this season with a game-high 24 points in the 73-68 victory over Tennessee State on Dec. 31. He also equaled a season high with four assists in the win over the Tigers. Against Austin Peay on Dec. 29, Jones poured in 19 points.

Jones shot 69.6 percent from the floor (16-of-23) during the two games last week and currently ranks second in the OVC in field goal percentage for the season (57.8 percent). The guard has scored at least 10 points in 13 consecutive games.

The other weekly award winners went to SIUE’s Jerome Jones (Newcomer) and Kris Davis (Freshman).

Brandon Rash, Transylvania University
Transylvania University junior forward Brandon Rash (Mt. Sterling, Ky./Montgomery Co.) led the Pioneers to
three wins in four contests over the holiday break and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference
Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time. The junior was named the MVP of the Don Lane Classic
after leading Transy to wins over Hendrix and No. 14 Wabash, scoring 42 points and grabbing six total rebounds in
the event. In the win over nationally ranked Wabash, Rash scored 25 points, hitting 10 of his 19 shots from the
floor to go with five rebounds. The junior also scored 21 points in a 73-64 win over LaVerne and added 24 points
in a 66-62 loss to Gustavus Adolphus in the D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas. For the week, Rash averaged 21.8
points, 3.3 rebounds, while connecting on 57.9% of his field goal attempts as the Pioneers tied a school-record with
10-straight wins to open the season. Transylvania (10-1, 4-0 HCAC) returns to conference play against Franklin
and Defiance this week.
