Former Bat Cat Chris Rusin threw a no-hitter in New Orleans today for the Triple A Iowa Cubs in a 3-0 win.
Rusin dominated the Marlins farm club from start to finish.
The former Cat struck out three and walked two on the day.
As pitchers say, keeping the ball in play and on the ground makes life easier. 15 batters put away by ground balls. 6 retired on flyouts.
Iowa scored all three of its runs in the second inning, and Rusin is to thank for that as well. A single by the pitcher brought in 2 runs. Rusin finished 2-of-4 at the plate for the day.
In 20 major league starts over the past three seasons, Rusin has a major league record of 4-9 with a 4.54 ERA.
He's 2-4 with a 3.58 ERA in six starts for the Triple A Cubs this season.
The no-hitter was the first of any kind for the Iowa Cubs since Reggie Patterson no-hit the Omaha Royals on August 21, 1984. It's the 14th no-hitter in franchise history.
