LEXINGTON, Ky. - Kentucky has hired Mike Cassity to fill the vacancy on its staff left by the departure of Steve Brown. Cassity will coach the Cats secondary, as he has done for the past two seasons at Marshall.

Cassity is a 1976 graduate of Kentucky and played football for the Cats alongside current UK special teams/tight ends coach Greg Nord. Cassity was also a secondary coach at UK from 1979 to 1981. He was Louisville's defensive coordinator from 2004 to 2007.

Cassity is a journeyman. He has been a defensive coordinator at Oklahoma State, Baylor, Illinois, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, East Carolina, Northeast Louisiana and Western Kentucky. He's also coached the secondary at Wisconsin and Morehead State, in addition to Kentucky and Marshall.

Kentucky says it can confirm the hire because its offices are currently closed and can not announce any hires until the offices officially reopen.
