Kentucky pulls out the win over Louisville in the annual Battle of the Bluegrass.
UK scored 19 points off of just 14 Louisville turnovers. The Cards managed to net 15 points off 21 Wildcat turns. Both teams were pretty even in the paint as UofL put up 26 and the the Cats 24. Where the difference was made...on the boards. Kentucky scored 20 second chance points off 20 offensive rebounds. Louisville meanwhile had just 6 points off of 10 offensive boards.
Russ Smith led the Cards and all scorers with 30 points. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist led the way for Kentucky with 24 points and 19 rebounds. Anthony Davis scored 12 of his 18 from the free throw line...leading the way for the Cats at the charity stripe. As a team, UK made 32 of 43 foul shots.
Both teams struggled from the field as Kentucky shot a mere 29.8 percent on 17 of 57 shooting while Louisville went 20 of 62 for 32.3 percent.
The Cats never trailed after a Darius Miller three put Kentucky up 3-2 roughly a minute into the game.
