John Calipari says he will have to revisit some things in practice that he thought his Kentucky team had already understood.
LEXINGTON, Ky. - John Calipari's Kentucky Wildcats did not show the "competitive spirit" or "will to win" he thought they had in Thursday night's loss to Notre Dame.
Because Calipari didn't consider it an issue prior to the 64-50 defeat by the Irish, he had moved on to other things in practice. Now, Calipari says, he'll have to revisit the importance of competing.
"I probably last week started working on situations too soon. See, there’s not a situation when you’re down 15. There is no situation. You’re not going to go five-point plays three times in a row. There are no situations," Calipari said.
"So we worked on situations and got away from the competitive spirit which just shows we aren’t ready to move forward yet. I keep saying the same thing. You’ve got to go a step at a time. I wanted us farther; we’re not ready for that. This is where we are right now. The love of learning, the practice, they’ll get that, they’ll be fine.”
