The UK baseball team returned home Monday following a wild, season-ending weekend in the Gary, Indiana NCAA regional.
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Kentucky baseball team returned to Lexington Monday afternoon after losing to Kent State in the Gary, Indiana NCAA regional final Sunday.
UK had an historic season, setting the school mark for wins in a season at 45, while also earning its first No. 1 ranking in program history.
Head coach Gary Henderson said that his players should be pleased with what they've accomplished this season.
UK junior catcher/first baseman Luke Maile said that the team is disappointed in how things went over the weekend.
Maile and Henderson called the weekend in the NCAA regional "crazy" and "unique."
It started with a 21-inning loss to Kent State in the opening game Friday.
It ended with a 3-2 loss to Kent State in the regional final, in a game featuring some controversial calls which cost the Cats.
A Kent State scored all three of its runs on a questionable home run that hit the fence and bounced back on to the field.
