Update: A TORNADO WATCH has been issued for western Kentucky until 5 a.m. Wednesday. As of 11:30 Tuesday night, the ABC 36 viewing area is not under any watches or warnings. The line of strong/severe storms is expected to arrive to areas west of Lexington after 4 a.m. and could push into Lexington as early as 7 a.m. Wednesday. The storms are expected to enter eastern Kentucky late Wednesday morning. These times are not exact, but give a general timing of the event.

Our main concerns with these storms continue to be strong, damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and an isolated tornado. Before you head to bed, make sure your NOAA weather radio is on so you have something to wake you when watches and warnings are issued for your county.

Meteorologist Michael Estime will be here early Wednesday morning, tracking the storms as they move through the area. Good Morning Kentucky starts at 5 a.m. on ABC 36, but we will break in sooner to track storms if necessary.

Lexington hit 66° on Tuesday afternoon, but much cooler weather is on the way. Between the two air masses, we will see strong to severe thunderstorms.

Everyone should stay dry through at least midnight tonight with temps near 60° through morning. By 4 a.m., thunderstorms could begin to enter our western counties including Frankfort. The strong line of storms will continue to push east and could be near Lexington for the morning commute. By early afternoon, the storms are expected to be moving through eastern Kentucky.

The main threat with these storms will be damaging winds and flash flooding. An isolated tornado can't be ruled out. Due to the early morning arrival of this system, make sure your NOAA Weather Radio or other alert system is on before heading to bed.

Behind the front, temperatures will quickly drop through the day Wednesday. By Thursday morning, we will dip to the mid 20s.
