Frigid Cold Ahead of Weekend Snow

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for all counties from Saturday morning through Sunday morning.

Update: Temps have already fallen into the teens in many areas late Friday night. The snow forecast described below seems to still be on track for now.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for all counties from Saturday morning through Sunday morning.


Lexington started Friday at a frigid 5° this morning. Wind chills made it feel like it was well below 0° for a number of hours. The city only made it to 19° while areas further south made it up to the low and mid 20s.

Tonight, temps will drop down into the low and mid teens by morning with winds chills easily dropping into the single digits. The snow will start to move into the Bluegrass Saturday morning and reach most areas by late morning. Snow intensity will increase through the day and could greatly reduce visibility at times. Use extreme caution if you must travel. Winds up to 15mph will cause blowing snow.

By Saturday afternoon, temps will top out in the low 30s. This is when portions of southern Kentucky could see a switch to rain. If southern Kentucky does see rain, snowfall totals will be greatly reduced in those areas.

A majority of the snow is expected to fall by late Saturday night, but smaller accumulations are possible Sunday as well. By the end of the weekend, the Bluegrass could see 2"-3" of snow with a few locations seeing 4". Southern Kentucky will see 1"-3" of snow depending on the amount of rain. Higher amounts will be possible in the higher elevations of eastern Kentucky.

Court documents showed that a suspect killed in a shootout with police had been previously arrested for domestic violence. The Fayette County Coroner said Jesse Gibbons had been shot several times Saturday night before he died. Video Video
