Lexington Police: Woman In Critical, Stable Condition After Assault

Lexington Police said a man attacked a woman with a knife, while she was shopping in a Kroger. They said it was an unprovoked, random assault, and the victim is now in critical, but stable condition.

Lexington Police said it could happen to anyone.

According to officers, a man attacked a woman with a knife, while she was shopping in the Kroger at Nicholasville and Lowry Lane.

They said it was an unprovoked, random assault.

Police said the victim is now in critical, but stable condition.

Officers have made an arrest in the investigation. They arrested Corey Cummins on the scene and charged him with assault.

Police said around 2:30 p.m. a woman was shopping in one of the back aisles of the Kroger store.

That’s when they said a stranger came up behind her.

“Basically tried to grab her and cut her throat from behind. So we don't know if she even saw him,” Sgt. Scott May said.

Officers said the woman was cut right where the collar bone joins her neck.

“It’s very unusual, this time of day, public place, very very baffling why something like this would have happened,” said May.

Kroger management released a statement that said even though they believe this is an isolated situation, they are taking the necessary steps to make sure their customers are safe.
