A woman has been indicted on charges that she stole money from an animal rescue where she was employed, according to Anderson County deputies.
A woman has been indicted on charges that she stole money from an animal rescue where she was employed, according to Anderson County deputies.

Officers said the Home at Last Animal Sanctuary in Salvisa had filed an embezzlement complaint in September 2013 against Melanie Aitken after discovering discrepancies in a number of checks.

Those checks had been made out to Aitken, the rescue's treasurer.

Investigators said she had stolen over $69,000 in the course of three years.

Aitken was indicted on three counts of theft by unlawful taking over $10,000 and lodged in the Shelby County Detention Center.
