According to Wilmore officials the Secretary of State's Land Office is still going off a 30-year old map of the town, that does not take into account any of the city's land annexations since 1982.

Wilmore Director of Utilities and Public Works David Carlstedt says the issue stemmed from a lack of communication between the Secretary of State's office and past town officials who did not know they had to formally report any land annexations to the Commonwealth.

Carlstedt says they have been working with the state to re-report more than 20 land annexation ordinances that date back to the early 80's.

In 1982 the state legislature requested master maps be submitted to the state that showed every Kentucky town's boundaries.

Those annexed areas of Wilmore had previously been recorded by the Jessamine County Fiscal Court and by the local zoning board, but were never given to the state following 1982.

During the 2010 Census, the Commonwealth reverted back those 1982 maps. Because Wilmore's map had not been updated, their population numbers were down almost 15-hundred residents from the 2000 Census.

Carlstedt says they expect to have the state's map of the town updated by December of 2012.
