State Street near the UK Campus is an area that’s seen some trouble before when fans celebrate.

State Street near the UK Campus is an area that’s seen some trouble before when fans celebrate.

Not a single car was left on the block Friday night because of parking restrictions put in place in anticipation of what could happen after the game.

Lexington Police said crowds leading up to the game resembled a home football game but State Street has a reputation that needs preparation.

In 2012, fans poured into the streets, cars were set on fire, bottles were thrown, it was madness.  Lexington Police said the worst of it was on State Street.

That was when Kentucky won the National Championship.  Some people say the UK vs. U of L game is just the Sweet 16 but fans say the rivalry is just that strong.

Lexington Police said they learned a lot in 2012 and hope fans coming out to celebrate will stay safe. Police said coming to an area like State Street just to say you did, isn’t worth it and could be dangerous.

Lexington Police remind fans Kentucky has won championships before and beat Louisville before.  They ask fans to celebrate safely.
