West Sixth Brewing Co. Sued Over Logo

West Sixth Brewing Co. Sued Over Logo

The makers of 'Magic Hat' beers are suing the Lexington beer makers over their logo.
The makers of the beer 'Magic Hat #9' are suing the Lexington based brewing company West Sixth over what they say are similarities in the two beers' logos.

'Magic Hat #9' features a large number 9 with the Magic Hat dingbat-star in orange and red colors.

The West Sixth IPA beer features a large number 6 with a compass star to the right of the number.

West Sixth Brewing Company Co-founder Ben Self says this is a frivolous lawsuit against his one year-old company from a larger national brewing company, and is a bullying tactic to run West Sixth out of business.

In a press release, the makers of Magic Hat say they had been negotiating with West Sixth to have the logo modified since September of 2012, however talks stopped in December of 2012 and the lawsuit was then filed.

Local businesses have started supporting West Sixth by boycotting all Magic Hat beers.

There is also a petition that's been started by West Sixth to try to get Magic Hat to drop it's lawsuit.
