Midnight Update:  With clear skies tonight, temperatures are already falling down quickly.  As of the 11pm update, many locations, including Lexington, were already in the upper 50s.  Based on the current temperature trends tonight, and with clear skies, I lowered my overnight low temperature forecast to 51 degrees (from 52 degrees earlier), which would tie the record low for August 15th, of 51 degrees, set back in 2004.  Enjoy your Thursday!

High pressure will continue to be in control of our weather through the end of the week, with cool mornings and mild afternoons.

TONIGHT: We will have clear skies with overnight low temperatures close to record lows for this time of the year. Overnight low temperatures will be around 52 degrees. Here some of the record low temperatures for tomorrow, August 15th: Lexington, 51 degrees (2004); Frankfort, 49 degrees (1964); Jackson, 55 degrees (1994); London, 49 degrees (1964); Louisville, 51 degrees (1963).

THURSDAY: High pressure will continue to be in control of our weather, with mostly sunny skies and mild afternoon temperatures around 78 degrees.

THURSDAY NIGHT: More moisture will start to return to the region Thursday night, with mostly clear to partly cloudy skies. Overnight low temperatures will be cool, yet not as cold, with low temperatures around 58 degrees by daybreak Friday.

FRIDAY: We will have a little more cloud cover on Friday, yet partly sunny skies overall, as more moisture streams across Kentucky. Friday afternoon high temperatures will be around 80 degrees, with the chance for an isolated rain shower.

WEEKEND: With increased moisture around, there will be a chance for a few late day showers and thunderstorms, with high temperatures remaining around 80 degrees.

NEXT WEEK: We are also closely monitoring the tropics, as some weather models develop a tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico and bring it north into the Eastern United States by the end of the weekend and into early next week. Depending on what exactly happens with the possible tropical system, right now we are just expecting a few rain showers next week, with highs in the low to mid 80s.
