Snow For Parts Of Kentucky Late Wednesday

Midnight Update:  Clouds have been moving back into Kentucky tonight, as a strengthening low pressure system is moving along the Gulf Coast states.  The Gulf Coast low pressure system will move up the U.S. East Coast Wednesday through Thursday, bringing crippling snow and ice for the East Coast.  Kentucky will be on the outer fringe of snow, with Southeast Kentucky having the best chance for picking up an accumulating snow.  Wednesday will be mostly cloudy with a high of 32 degrees, with snow developing for Southeast Kentucky late Wednesday and linger into early Thursday.  Thursday will feature clearing skies with a high of 38 degrees.  A cold front will move through the region on Friday, bringing a wintry mix to Kentucky, with a high of 37 degrees.  Saturday will be cold with a high of 33 degrees, yet temperatures will be back around 40 degrees for Sunday.  A warming trend continues through next week.

Winter Storm Watches are in effect for Bell, Harlan, Letcher, and Pike counties for late Wednesday into early Thursday, where 3” or more of snow is possible. However, most of the Bluegrass looks to miss out on the snow, as a strengthening low pressure system moves up the East Coast U.S. Temperatures remain chilly this week, with a warming trend for next week.

TONIGHT: We’ll have partly cloudy skies and frigid temperatures overnight, with an overnight low temperature of 7 degrees. Wind chills will be around -5 degrees at times.

WEDNESDAY: We will have partly to mostly cloudy skies with high temperatures around 32 degrees. A developing low pressure over the Gulf Coast states will move up the East Coast of the United States, bringing heavy snowfall west of I-95. Southeast Kentucky will have the best chance for receiving snow, with flurries to more than 5” of snow in the higher elevations of Kentucky, along the Kentucky-Virginia state line. If this low pressure system stays further south or east, and away from Kentucky, we will have lesser amounts of snow. Yet a track more to the north or west, could mean more widespread snowfall for Kentucky. This will be something to closely monitor through the day Wednesday and into Thursday.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Light snow showers will linger for Eastern Kentucky, with mostly cloudy skies over Central Kentucky. Overnight low temperatures will be around 19 degrees.

THURSDAY: The East Coast low pressure system will continue to move further away, with partly sunny skies and highs around 38 degrees.

FRIDAY/VALENTINES DAY: Mostly cloudy skies with the chance for snow showers mixed with rain will be possible for Friday, as a cold front moves through the region. Friday high temperatures will be around 37 degrees.

PRESIDENT’S DAY WEEKEND: A warming trend will begin this weekend and continue through next week. However, Saturday will remain cold with a high of only 33 degrees, and partly to mostly cloudy skies. There will be a slight chance for a wintry mix on Saturday, as well. Sunday will be a little milder, with a high of 40 degrees and partly cloudy skies. Temperatures will be back in the upper 40s for President’s Day Monday, with the chance for some rain, as another cold front moves through.
