Water Safety Tips For Memorial Day Weekend

Before you make a splash in the water this Memorial Day weekend, safety experts warn of the potential danger above and below the surface.
Since Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer, coupled with the warm summer-like temperatures, a lot of people will hit the water.

Safety experts used the opportunity to remind people of some basic water safety tips that could save their life in an emergency.

It's often a commons sense approach, but one that experts said many people ignore.

For example, always wear a life preserver.

Be aware of who may be around you in the water.

Be on the lookout for debris in the water.

Be familiar with the body of water for things like sand bars, shallow water areas and potential rock formations just below the surface.

Be on the lookout for other boaters, people water skiing, or jet skiing.

Don't ever be in or around the water impaired.

Know basic first-aid and potentially life-saving CPR in case of emergency.
