Water Main Break Tied To Fish Kill In Jessamine County

Kentucky American Water said water from a line break in rural Fayette County got into East Hickman Creek and may be responsible for a fish kill in Jessamine County.
Kentucky American Water Company said a water line break in rural Fayette County may be responsible for a fish kill in neighboring Jessamine County.

A 30-inch water line broke Monday off of Delong Road at Colliver Lane in rural Fayette County.

A spokesperson for KAWC said before repair crews arrived on the scene, some water from the broken line got into East Hickman Creek.

The spokesperson said the water was treated drinking water, which may have caused a fish kill in the creek in Jessamine County.

The spokesperson also speculated the fish may have been killed by a big rush of water, but noted that the water that got into the creek was not contaminated in any way.

The line break was repaired on Monday.
