Thousands of people enjoyed a carnival atmosphere at Centre College Thursday.

Centre College's Debate Festival began at noon on the school's main lawn. There were live bands playing all afternoon.

No one was allowed into the festival without being searched by Secret Service first. No alcohol was allowed on the grounds. Bands will play up until the beginning of the debate at 9 p.m. The debate will then be broadcast on a big screen for visitors to watch.

The festival drew 5,000 people 12 years ago for the college's first debate.
