Viewing Held Today For Former Lexington Police Chief

People gathered today for the viewing of former Lexington Police Chief John Patrick McFadden who passed away Thursday at the age of 78.

People gathered today for the viewing of a former Lexington Police Chief who passed away Thursday at the age of 78.

John Patrick McFadden was Lexington’s Chief of Police from 1980 to 1990.

He graduated from Lexington Catholic High School and Eastern Kentucky University.

In April of 1957, he joined the Lexington Police Department as a patrol officer. He was also a member of the Kentucky Army National Guard for 25 years.

McFadden helped establish the Lexington Police Academy.

He won many awards including the National Defense Ribbon, Kentucky Medal of Merit, Kentucky Distinguished Services and the Kentucky Meritorious Award with Three Clusters.

McFadden’s funeral services are Monday at 11a.m. at the St. Paul Catholic Church.
