A shocking crime took place just before dawn in Versailles.  73-year-old Dennis Phar suffered life-threatening injuries, after police say Phar's son stabbed him in the neck.

"A friend of mine had called.  She was going out to breakfast this morning with Dennis, and he didn't show up.  She went to the house, and found out.  I'm very upset.  I can't believe that anybody would do this to him," said Lenore Russic, Dennis Phar's live-in housekeeper.

It wasn't just a random act of violence.  Police say before 6 AM, Dennis Phar's own son slit his throat.

"Ross Phar stabbed his father, Dennis Phar, in the neck with a knife," said Lt. Daniel Clark, Versailles Police.

The stabbing sent the 73-year-old Phar to UK hospital.  Investigators say this wasn't the first incident.

"We've had several encounters with Ross at that residence with domestic violence situations," said Lt. Clark.

According to court documents, In June Ross spent 21 days in the county jail for violating a protective order his father applied for.

"Him and his son were having problems in the past," said Russic.

While police investigated the crime scene.  The suspect drove by the house, and led police on a chase.

"At that point he was driving in a reckless manner, just past the intersection of Paddock Drive.  Ross Phar's vehicle struck a motorcycle where they both ran off the roadway.  At that time, Ross Phar was arrested at the scene," said Lt. Clark.

While police continue their investigation, Ross Phar is in jail on a number of charges.
