As the snow falls and ice forms, collisions are growing, especially in the eastern part of the Commonwealth.

Deputies in Elliott County have received several calls about weather-related accidents, some caused by black ice. One incident involved the jailer, who was on his way to pick up inmates when his van slid off the road. There have been no road closures in Elliott County at this point.

In Morehead, state police have not reported any road closures, but have said black ice is on the roadways. They have worked seven accidents in Morgan County alone and 12 in Wolfe County. All of the accidents were due to the weather. There were reports of injuries, but all of them were minor.

The Sheriff's office in Clay County said between 35 and 42 weather related accidents have been worked since 5 this morning. In one instance, a salt truck collided with an ambulance, causing the salt truck to overturn. Injuries have been reported in some of the accidents, but none were life threatening. The Hal Rogers Parkway was closed for some time because of ice, but it has since reopened. Some other roads have been closed due to the ice as well.

State police have said they are working a number of collisions in Pikeville. One of the accidents was fatal. Police have not said whether that particular crash was weather related.
