Van Crashes Into Lexington Apartment

The van blew a hole in the apartment's bedroom wall Thursday night, forcing at least three people to find somewhere else to sleep.
At least three people had to sleep elsewhere Thursday night after a van blew through a Lexington apartment.

Police arrested Benjamin Nesbitt, 18, after they said he told officers he jumped out of the van without putting it into gear just after 10 p.m.

They said Nesbitt told police the van went down the hill, and crashed into the apartment.

He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, among other things.

Erik Degiorgio, who lives in the apartment the van hit with his fiancee, said he didn't know what the loud sound was at first.

"I thought something just fell off the wall, but there's glass breaking...and it was such a loud boom that it's just--that couldn't have been something that randomly fell in the bedroom," he said.

Police said Nesbitt was part of a disorder on Tates Creek Road between two groups who claimed to be robbed by the other. Officers could not find any evidence of a robbery.

Fire officials said they'd be back at the apartment Friday to assess the damage to the apartment.
