Family tell ABC 36 News that the woman shot Thursday in Frankfort is 63 year-old Patricia Ann Tate of Frankfort.

Tate's son Tim Wethington told ABC 36 that is mother is in stable condition, coherent and talking, but that the bullet lodged above her left eye will have to stay in for the time being.

Wethington says his mother is able to see out of the eye, and can move but has not yet gotten out of bed.

Police say Tate was shot Thursday night at her grandson's residence on Manley-Leestown Road, allegedly by 38 year old Mona Lisa Maupin.

Maupin is currently lodged at the Franklin County Regional Jail.

Wethington says his mother only knew of Maupin as the neighbor of her grandson she was visiting, and never spoke to Maupin the night she was shot.

He says Tate's grandson was selling his car to a man, who Maupin recognized, and came out of her home to confront the man, starting an argument.

Wethington says Maupin allegedly pulled out a gun.  That was when Tate went inside her grandson's house to call police.

He says Tate was struck after a stray bullet, allegedly from Maupin's gun, went through the wall's of the home and struck her in the head.

Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton said the victim was airlifted to U.K. Hospital in Lexington in critical, but stable condition.

Investigators have not said what led to the reported shooting.

The case is still under investigation.

Wethington says the bullet that struck Tate also went through her skull and caused bleeding in the brain, but says doctors were able to stop the bleeding.

He says a retina specialist is expected to meet with Tate in the next few days to discuss the bullet lodged above her head.
