The U.K. Athletics Department said Thursday that the arrest of former U.K. Assistant Basketball Coach Rod Strickland for driving on a DUI suspended license may have been a mistake.

A release from U.K. Executive Associate Athletics Director, DeWayne Peevy, said the department was looking into whether a clerical error about the status of Strickland's driver's license led to his arrest.

Police said they arrested Strickland, 46, around 9:30 a.m. Thursday at East Maxwell and South Martin Luther King Boulevard because the computer information provided to the officer showed Strickland was driving with a DUI suspended license.

Strickland's license was suspended for one year in Kentucky in 2010 after pleading guilty to DUI, but that suspension ended in April of 2011, according to court documents.

Strickland was also charged Thursday morning with failure to signal and having no vehicle registration, according to the Fayette County Detention Center's Web site.  He was released from jail around 11:00 a.m.

The Athletics Department said Strickland was on his way into the office at U.K. when he was pulled over.

The release from the athletics department said according to Strickland, his vehicle was properly registered and that he produced his driver's license at the scene.

Strickland currently serves as special assistant to head basketball coach John Calipari.  He was demoted from assistant coach following his 2010 DUI arrest.
