Lexington police are searching for a suspect in a home invasion.

Officers were called to a home on Warfield Place just after 10 p.m. Thursday.

"He said, 'I'll shoot ya. I'll shoot ya,'" said one victim, Margaret Fathergill, 75.

Fathergill said her husband, her brother, and herself were home when the suspect, who police say was described to them as a man having a red beard, black hat, and a silver firearm, walked in through the unlocked front door.

"It's scary," she said, then added the suspect began to hit her husband.

"I said please don't hit him...please don't hit him. I didn't want him to hit him. I got an awful bad sick man in there. He could die any time, that's how bad he is."

Fathergill said the suspect stole a pocketbook and several phones from the home.  Police said the suspect then ran, though the victims didn't see in which direction.

The 75-year-old said she was shaken, but also angry.

"Anybody would come in onto old people like that--intrude in that way--yes, he's a coward. He's lazy. He probably don't work. He probably needs money," she said, adding, "I wished I'd been a little younger. I'd have showed him some."
