Update: Two Fires in Lexington Investigated As Arson

A vacant convenience store on the corner of Pine and High Streets and a tire fire just down the road are both being investigated as arson.
The Lexington Fire Department says the convenience store fire and tire fire that happened just off of High Street are both being investigated as arson.

Investigators did not yet say if both fires are linked.

Fire fighters were called to the vacant 'Stop N' Shop' on the corner of High and Pine at about 3:15pm Friday.

The fire was contained to a corner office of the building in about 20 minutes. Investigators say it initially appears as though that fire started outside of the building, possibly in a dumpster next to the building.

At about 4:45pm, while crews were finishing up at the convenience store fire, black smoke started billowing just down the street about two blocks away. Crews raced to the scene to find a group of abandoned tires on fire just off of Merino St in a vacant lot.

The tire fire was put out quickly. No one was hurt in either fire.

Fire investigators are asking anyone with any information on either fire to call them at 859-231-5672.
