Update: Suspect Identified In Franklin County Shooting

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office has identified the suspect in a shooting as Mona Lisa Maupin. Investigators said she is charged with shooting another woman, who was airlifted to U.K. Hospital.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office has identified the suspect in a Thursday afternoon shooting.

Investigators said Mona Lisa Maupin, 38, is accused of shooting her neighbor in the woman's home along Manley-Leestown Road.

Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton said Maupin lives next door to the house where the reported shooting happened.

Sheriff Melton said there were several people in the home at the time of the shooting, including a 5-year old child.

No one else was injured, according to Sheriff Melton.

The name of the woman who was shot has not been released.

Sheriff Melton said the victim was airlifted to U.K. Hospital in Lexington in critical, but stable condition.

Investigators have not said what led to the reported shooting.

Sheriff Melton said when investigators arrived on the scene, Maupin ran into the adjacent woods, where she was later apprehended following a search on the ground with police dogs and by air with the Lexington Police helicopter.

ABC 36 News was the only television camera there as Maupin was being transported to jail.  She proclaimed her innocence to ABC 36 News Reporter/Anchor Ellen Bryan.

"I'm innocent, innocent, innocent, innocent.  They're setting me up," Maupin said.

The case is still under investigation.
