Update: Strip Club Sexual Assault Case Sent To Grand Jury

A Fayette County Grand Jury will decide whether to indict Clyde Sexton, 71, who's accused of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman he worked with at a Lexington strip club.
A man accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a Lexington strip club after she lost consciousness had his case sent to a Fayette County Grand Jury.

Police arrested Clyde Sexton, 71, in connection to a sexual assault that reportedly happened in late July at Fillies Gentleman's Club on Winchester Road.

Investigators said the victim, Melissa Smiley, 37, had a pre-existing medical condition that had caused her to faint.

Police said when Smiley lost consciousness, Sexton sexually assaulted her instead of calling for help.

Paramedics said Smiley was unresponsive when they arrived an estimated 20-30 minutes after she first collapsed.

Smiley died a few days later at the hospital.

The preliminary autopsy did not determine a cause or manner of death.

Investigators are waiting on additional toxicology results and other tests before determining how and why Smiley died.

Reportedly Smiley sometimes did odd jobs at the club, including maintenance work.

Police said Sexton and Smiley were painting in the club before it opened on the day Sexton reportedly sexually assaulted her.

Police said some of the reported assault was captured on surveillance video.

Sexton pleaded not guilty to sexual assault charges at his initial court appearance in Fayette District Court.
